The "Pancreas 2018" conference was held on April 26, 2018 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in the United States. The Pancreas Conference is an international conference on pancreas. It is held every two years. This time, the conference is hosted by Johns Hopkins Hospital. A total of 312 registered and invited delegates from 25 countries and regions including the United States, Europe, Africa, and Asia, respectively. Professor Yi Miao and his team of 11 from the Pancreas Center of the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University were accepted by the chairman Christopher Wolfgang and Co-Chair Professor Jun Yu to attend the conference. The four-day conference covered almost every area of basic and clinical pancreatic disease. The format of the meeting mainly includes invited speeches, oral presentations and poster presentations. The 58 invited speakers are world-renowned experts in pancreatic diseases, including Professor Carlos Fernandez-del Castillo of Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard University. He worked on pancreatic cystic tumors 20 years ago and summarized the progress of IPMN treatment Similarities and confusions with the current three international guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic cystic tumors. Professor Massimo Falconi, President of the European Society of Neuroendocrine Tumors (ENETS) and Director of Pancreatic Surgery at San Rafael Hospital in Italy, introduced the timing of surgery for pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors and shared experience in the treatment of special cases of pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors. The pioneer of laparoscopic pancreatic surgery, Professor Michael Kendrick, reported the indications, complications, and prognosis of laparoscopic pancreatic surgery at the Mayo Hospital in the United States, confirming that minimally invasive surgery is the future. Professor Jin He, a famous expert in robotic pancreas surgery, shared the situation of surgical resection of robotic pancreatic cancer at Hopkins Hospital through a surgical video, and analyzed the cost of robotic surgery. Professor Ralph Hruban, Professor of Pathology at the Hopkins Hospital, the most cited scholar in the field of pancreas, showed the most advanced 3D pathological diagnosis of the pancreas, using 3D pathological technology to display real-time imaging data of vascular and nerve invasion of pancreatic cancer. Fluorescent 3D pathology is like science fiction. The movie impressed the participants. Professor Elliot Fishman demonstrated the role of CT 3D imaging in accurate clinical diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, and explained the principles of artificial intelligence imaging technology and its diagnostic value for pancreatic cancer. Professor Angela Belcher reported that the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) used fluorescence display technology, using near-infrared (NIR) imaging technology in combination with shadowless lights, to locate the micrometastasis of pancreatic cancer during surgery, like science fiction describing future surgery, which is incredible. Also invited to the conference were Professor Peter Allen, Director of Pancreatic Surgery, Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital, New York, USA, Professor Claudio Bassi, Leader of the Italian Pancreatology Group, Chair of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery in Japan, Professor Kyoichi Takaori, Director of Surgery at Kyoto University, Professor Marco Del Chiaro of Pancreatic Surgery at Karoliska University, Professor Nita Ahuja, Director of Oncology Surgery at Yale University, and Professor Lei Zheng at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Professor Yi Miao from Nanjing Medical University attended the conference as an invited speaker of the conference. The invited speakers of the conference almost covered the current hot issues of pancreatic basic and clinical research, and delivered a lot of new information. About 300 papers were received at the conference, of which 30 were selected for oral presentation and 100 were selected for poster display. A total of 17 manuscripts were selected from the Pancreas Center of the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, two of which were selected for oral presentation and 15 were exhibited for posters.

Professor Christopher Wolfgang, director of hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery at the Hopkins Hospital in the United States, and many other surgical colleagues had an in-depth discussion with Professor Miao on issues of common concern after the meeting. Professor Miao was also invited to chair the sessions of Oral Presentation for Basic and Clinic Science and Surgery for PDAC: What Next?
