The 2nd Jinling Pancreas Forum Came to A Successful Conclusion

“The 2nd Jinling Pancreas Forum” was held in Nanjing from September 9th to 11th. We had the honor to have invited Superintendent Tang Jinhai of the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University; Vice Chairman and Secretary-General, Director Liu Yanqun of Jiangsu Medical Association; Professor Li Zhaoshen; Professor Saluja of University of Miami; Professor Kevin, Professor Li Guangfu, and Professor Eric of University of Missouri; Professor Li Min of University of Oklahoma; and Professor Strobel of Heidelberg University, as well as many other well-known experts in China and other countries.

The past, present and future of the development of pancreatic surgery was reviewed through special reports in the Forum. The standardized diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic surgery was promoted through the multi-disciplinary discussion of MDT medical and surgical combination. One of the highlights of the Forum is the MDT discussion during the breakfast meeting held in 7’o clock every morning. The First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital and Nanjing First Hospital have provided their own cases which were jointly commented by guests of medical and surgical departments. They provided the most integrated therapeutic schemes with their expertise in different fields, making the breakfast meeting a multi-disciplinary feast.

Consummate skills of pancreatic operations were shown via operation demonstrations and videos. In the afternoon of the last day, the main venue of the Forum rebroadcasted the live streams of three completely different operations being performed in three operating rooms of the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University. Professor Peng Chenghong’s team of Ruijin Hospital of the School of Medicine of Shanghai Jiaotong University has demonstrated a robot-based pancreaticoduodenectomy. Professor Mou Yiping from Zhejiang Provincial People’s Hospital has demonstrated a laparoscopic pancreaticoduodenectomy. Professor Miao Yi’s team of the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, which was also the host of the Forum, has demonstrated an open pancreaticoduodenectomy. All participants have witnessed the operation being peformed in three different methods, and were impressed by the consummate skills of three professors. It was indeed a visual and acoustic feast. The parallel sessions of the Forum also rebroadcasted the demonstration of several endoscopic operations simultaneously. Professor Zhang Xiaofeng of Hangzhou First People’s Hospital; Professor Lv Ying of Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital; Professor Li Xun of the First Hospital of Lanzhou University; and Professor Fan Zhining and Professor Xiao Bin of the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University have presented multiple demonstrations.

During the Roadshow – the Mighty Blue Convoy Fleet held by the editorial board of Chinese Journal of Digestive Surgery in the afternoon of 9th, Professor Miao Yi together with Professor Liu Yingbin of Xinhua Hospital of the School of Medicine of Shanghai Jiaotong University, and Professor Yang Yinmo of Peking University First Hospital led the students of their teams and engaged in the Knowledge Quiz and Case Analysis. The team led by Professor Miao Yi has been awarded the “Prize for the Best Perioperative Period Management” with their solid medical knowledge and quick actions during the “Quiz of the Basic Medical Knowledge regarding Surgical Perioperative Period”. All three tutors have been awarded the Prize for the Best Tutor!

This is a Forum concerning the multi-disciplinary cooperation in pancreatic diseases, including contents of pancreatic surgery, GI medicine, endoscopy, oncology, radiology and pathology. Nearly 500 representatives across China attended the Forum. Profound discussions were held targeting the controversial topics in pancreatic diseases. Participants expressed that they have gained a lot in the Forum and it will bring good news for pancreatic disease patients.
